Stage 1 before break in?
#12
Bought my bike in July, 100+ temps here.
First ride I new something had to be done about the heat off this thing. It was burning me up.
At 400 miles I installed the full stage 1 from Fuel Moto.
Without a doubt the best thing I have done to the bike. Could'nt believe the difference in heat, it ran so much cooler.
And what a difference in power, it really pepped it up.
I think the sooner the better on the stage 1, its got to be better on the engine not to run so hot.

so it depends on how these are set up.
Like some other riders, I installed my stuff and was ready to return to stock if it ever needed to go into the dealer ( such as for recall service).
IF you have the dealer install H-D stuff at time of purchase, the warranty will extend to that stuff- IF it is marked in the catalog as street legal- the "off road" stuff you are on your own, unless the dealer extends coverage out of their pocket.
However the H-D stuff may cost more than other brand equivalent products, for instance the S/E intake is $140 in ugly cast grey, the ness big sucker in chrome is under $120 and has a reusable filter media, not paper
this addresses the 2 year factory warranty, the multi-year 3rd party extended warranties are a whole 'nother bucket of fish, they are a separate contract between the owner and the 3rd party ( it is not H-D) and have their own conditions and exclusions
My at home stage 1 is $600

Blusmbl is right, but I want to add a cautionary note about HD mods and the warranty: The Stage I and Stage II (cam) mods were done at the dealer prior to delivery when the bike was new to the original owner. I bought it from the same dealer @ 3500 miles, no changes to the bike, bought an extended warranty, and was assured that since everything was HD and had been performed at the dealer when the bike was new, I was completely covered. Fast forward 2 years and, after 2 years of poor fuel mileage and driveability problems it was finally determined that one of the cams had been installed out of time. I was also informed that, due to the presence of my Screaming Eagle Super Tuner, my extended warranty was not going to cover repairs. WTF!!! It ended up getting resolved. But be careful.

If you have an aftermarket tuner, especially a piggy-back and you end up with any heat issues, most dealers AND factory reps will blame it on the tuner putting the bike too lean and that is why it overheated and burnt up xyz.
