Default Helmet laws in North East

For those of you that reside in the north east, any problems with leo's stopping you to check your helmets? planing a trip to Acadia this summer. Up the coast from MD to Maine, head west and then run the Mtns. back home. One of us in the group wears a non DOT helmet and i dont want him having any problems(tickets, fines) on the trip. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Maine and NH have no helmet requirements for adults. I live in MA and from what I have seen and been told, if you are not giving the LEO's a reason to pull you over, then you will not likely be pulled over for a helmet check. I have never been pulled over for this. I see riders all the time in MA with non DOT helmets. Don't give them a reason to pull them over and you should be fine. Good luck and enjoy! I'm in northern NH, rode to WV last summer and on the return trip went through MD back to NH. There was 3 of us and no one had a DOT helmet. One of the guys got pulled over in a helmet state and the cop didn't even mention the helmet. I sure you won't have any problems as long as you don't do anything stupid.

Don't act like a$$hats and the police won't have any reason
to pull you over.....
I'd be more concerned of overly loud exhausts in some rural towns....
down town Portsmouth, N.H. & Old Orchard Beach, ME would be wise to keep the volume down....

Enjoy your trip and ride safe.... If the weather cooperates while in Bar Harbor,
sunrise from atop Cadillac Mtn is a must.

Stay out of Newport RI. No helmet law in RI. but Newport has a loud pipe law and they enforce it. (lots of signs coming off Jamestown bridge) Unless your on a Vespa you will probably be followed and ticketed. And have your buddy buy a cheap Vega helmet. They are DOT and can be got for about $70 for a half hat

You should be fine. As mentioned here, dont give the cops any reason to stop you. CT and PA have no helmet laws.

Don't worry bout it. Just don't ride stupid and beg to get stopped. RI,NH and ME have no helmet requirement for adults.
