Default Wild1 12.5" Apes on RK - Wire Length?

I'm swaping out my OEM handlebars for some 12 1/2 inch Wild1 Apes, 502, and want to wire internally by extending wires with staggard solder sections. I've searched the threads to see how long others have extended their wires, but getting conflicting info. I'm thinking 15" should be about right, but thought I'd see if anyone could verify before I start cutting and soldering.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Mike

I added about 6" to my wires for my 10" wild one's mini apes.
Just put your controls on the new bars, and measure how much you will need.
You might add a couple of extra inches to be safe.

Thanks Ragtop. I did put my cables on the new bars am figuring about 12 inches, so might go 15 inches just incase I decide to go with 14" apes. Thanks for confirming.

I went with Santee 14". I extended wires at least 6". Also bought the kit from LA Choppers out of the Drag Fatbook for 12-14" bars. Everything fits like stock. Nice stuff!

I have those bars on my RK.

I went +6 on all of the cables. The brake line could have been +4.

I increased all of the wires 6" as well. Way too long but it doesn't hurt to be too long in case you want to go with higher bars in the future.

Thank you for all your comments. You guys talked me outta the 15" extension, so I will back that off to 10". I really appreciate your help.

Only having one problem so far. The Molex connectors came apart just as the service manual described, except for one wire. Got them all out except for one. I think the paper clip down the hole broke something so I'm. SOL on the last one. But, I have a plan, so I'll post up results and pics when I'm done tomorrow.
Thanks again.

I doubt you broke anything. I had a couple of wires hang up like that too. Just give it a good tug. You can't really hurt anything...The molex is pretty easy to disassemble if you need too...

Sometimes...Get a pick that fits the hole and run it through there if it hangs. There is a rubber gasket inside that sometimes needs some convincing...
