I've hit it a few times on ramps/merging and attempting to join speeding traffic after a roadside stop where there are big trucks doing 80 mph. I've just bought a cheapo SE ignition, raising it to 6,000 rpm to give me a little breathing room. Figured I really did need nor would I benefit much more from a fancy tuneable one or the extra 200 rpm.

I am used to bikes with a lot more power and longer gears, and wondered what the hell was going on and why the bike wasn't going faster ...! It felt like the petrol running out.

Cam, carb and high rise lifters with a 21T compensator going in ... I was debating whether to put a tachometer on the FLHR but figured it was a waste of money. I'll just hit it a few more time and listen and feel to it so know where it is.

I think it's useful to have a little extra just for those incidents where you need an extra squeeze, and don't see 6,000 rpm as a sin.

I thought 6,500 rpm was the design limit for a road H-D and when the valves started to bounced? In the old days, valve bounce used to *be* the rev limiter!

What was the idea of the 8,000 rpm SE ignition units ... so you rode it on the tacho and never accidentally hit the wall?

I think of it as 'Sumo sprinting'. Those guys are actually surprising fast over short distances ...

The arthritis in this 71 year old`s wrists is controlled by meds, so I still screw it on at will.....

There is nothing like the torque of an American V twin pulling down the road! It really feels faster than it is. As I get older, I seem to appreciate these finer things in life!
And even a stock Dyna is known for its torque.

I've owned 19 Harleys & never once hit the limiter on any of them.

I friend of mine hits the rev limiter every time he test rides a bike in Daytona at the demo rides

Yea; me too.

I kept my limiter at 5500 when I went to 103/cams... I hit it often. Time to shift. Keeps me and the motor a little safer? If it was higher I'd still hit it??? I hit it on everything from the ninja to the tractor. I am slowing up in my old age but few notice.
