Wow, this thread went a long way! I certainly did not read every post, but overall a good discussion.

My 2cents, HD set the limit at a safe #, so why worry about it. I occasionally come close, no big deal.

Since you asked, I never hit it. Didn't even know there was one until I read this post.

No, hp peak for maximum acceleration. Otherwise you'll lose a LOT of races.

You'd be surprised. The motor isn't a WOT as much as your race car. What car btw?

When I test road my bike (first harley) it was so quiet (2012 limited) I hit the rev limiter a couple times. Was used to metric bikes that run alot higher RPMs. Don't hit it any more..............later..............mark

I know this is an older post but I thought I would throw in my

I find it best to shift at an rpm that after the shift puts you in the peak of the torque curve and the horsepower pulls you to the next shift.

You need to know how many rpm's you drop between gears then look at the dyno sheet and shift accordingly. I set my limiter a couple hundred rpm's above that for the occasional flub up. No need to spin an engine higher IMO.

If your bike makes peak torque at 5300 rpms and you lose 800 rpm's between shifts, I would set my limiter to 6300 rpm's just so I would not hit the limiter accidentally which kills forward momentum. I would try to shift right at 6100 rpm's.

Mostly stock bikes are going to run out of steam way before that so revving above an rpm that produces any output is either just for fun or you love the sound of it???
