Default 2001 FLHTCI MAJOR ISSUES

WELL, I HAVE A 2001 FLHTCI WITH OVER 40,000 MILES ON IT. IT'S BEEN AROUND TOWN A BIT. IT'S BEEN AT THE HD DEALER THAT IT WAS PURCHASED AND SERVICED AT FOR OVER A WEEK NOW. THEY'RE GRASPING AT STRAWS AT THIS POINT. ANYWAY, IT'S GOT THIS PROBLEM WITH THE SIGNALS, SPEEDO AND THE RADIO ARE ALL ON THE SAME MODULATOR, HD DEALER HAD TO ORDER THIS PART. THERE WAS/IS A RECALL ON THE 20 AMP BREAKER FOR THIS MODEL (99-03), THE HD DEALER HAD TO ORDER THIS PART TOO. THEY HOOKED HER UP TO THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE AND THEY GOT A BUNCH OF CODES, BUT WOULD NOT ELABORATE ON THEM. THEY STATED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINES WERE COLLAPSING AND THEY REPLACED THEM, THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY CHANGED THEM. NOW THEY SAY THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND THE FUEL FILTER MUST BE CHANGED, WELL, THEY DON'T HAVE THAT PART IN STOCK EITHER. THE CHECK ENGINE LITE COMES ON, THE BIKE WON'T IDLE. I HAVE TO GET THE RPM'S WAY UP THERE TO KEEP IT RUNNING. ALWAYS USE THE BEST OF GAS NO MATTER WHAT. KEPT UP WITH EVERY SINGEL TUNE UP. THE PARTS INSTALLERS AT THE HD DEALER TELL ME THAT THERE'S TOO MANY MILES ON THIS BIKE. WHAT THE F__K! WE ARE AND HAVE BEEN SO VERY PATIENT THROUGHOUT THIS WHOLE WEEK WAITING FOR THE BIKE TO BE DONE. STURGIS IS WAITING FOR US, GET MY BIKE DONE!!! ANYONE WITH THE SAME ISSUE PLEASE FEEL FREE TO EMAIL US, THANKS AND BE SAFE OUT THERE!!

Hey Les,

First of all, welcome to the forum. Please don't shout (type in all caps)[:@]. This is a great place and if we could fix your bike for you we would.

40,000 miles ain't nothin. Don't let them try to feed you that bull. There were some big problems with the fuel injection models in that year range (including my glide). Some just start screwing up. No idle or too much idle, missing, coughing, you name it. Still, Harley should be able to fix it. You better find a dealer that can fix it without all the guess work.

Good luck and keep us informed. Your're right, Sturgis is just around the corner.

Find another dealer that has a clue. That service department needs to get trained. Harleys can go for 100's of thousands of miles if taken care of. Fuel injection is a tricky system and any reputable repair dept in the Harley Dealer should be able to help you fix it.

I would not take anyone guessing how to fix my bike. I would demand they contact corporate engineers if they can't fix it. Throwing parts at it at your expense is not the way to do business or keep you coming around in the future. Talk to the general manager in the dealer and work out a way to get it fixed without all the BS and waiting and trial and error troubleshooting. I fix 45 million dollar aircraft on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, and don't have time to guess what might fix it. We have bombs to drop and that aircraft MUST fly. That's the attitude they need to get the job done right.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

At 138,000 miles, the bike uses NO oil[8D]
When I change oil, I put in 4 quarts in the motor and don't even check the oil till it has 4,000 miles on the oil[sm=exactly.gif]

Mine is in a shop right now with wiring problems that are killing my fuel system. It seems that the harness under the tank stays stationary while the engine bounces around like hell, especially on launch, and it has broke some wires. First check the codes yourself. Bill has posted the instructions in the DIY section. Then, get a line tester and a manual, trace a couple of the wires on systems you are having trouble with and test them out. Get someone to squeeze and wiggle the harness while you are doing the line check.

Good luck.
