I've had an HD oil cooler for about 3 years. It lowers the oil temp an average of 25 degrees.
I like the looks, location and it works great! Install during oil change and it is relatively easy, just a little tight if I remember correctly. As far as price, check here.......... surdyke.com.
Thanks to all of the responses I think I will probably go with the HD cooler at this point, Sporty302, thanks for all of the tips I will make sure I have everything I need prior to purchasing it so that it is as smooth as possible.
At the beginning of last years riding season I installed a Premium H-D oil cooler. I'm sure glad I did because it was extremely hot last summer with over 100 days over 100* temperatures.
My SE Ultra came with a cooler but after a lot of reading I am actually thinking about replacing it with the Oil Bud cooker. Do a google and read about it. And looks tough as nails.
I have a Oil Bud cooler on my trike. It is as tough as the video claims. I also am very pleased with how much cooler my engine oil stays since installing it. Another nice thing about the cooler for me is that I can jack up the back of my trike and remove the front AN fitting and drain most of the used oil out of the cooler and it drains most of the oil out of the oil filter before removal. It takes about 30 min extra but its worth it.
another good thing about an oil cooler, when you get caught in traffic, your oil temp will start out 25-30 degrees cooler. What ever cooler you decide on, you will be better to have 1, then not.
I used the Skratch method to install mine and it worked great, no leaks yet and found a good deal on ebay. I also like to use the K&N oil filter with the 17mm nut installed on the filter for easy removal.
Get a 1/2 in. socket with 7/16 in. hex bit needed to install the oil filter adapter. Hard to find, got mine from Grainger and it was pricey, but a must have for properly torquing down this part.

I tried this but the G5 bolt rung off as the stock fitting was pretty tight. I did not have a G8 in that size.

Auto Zone sells a torx bit made on a 7/16" hex as a stand alone 3/8" drive socket type. You can use a 7/16" socket off the rack at the store to check the torx for fit. It is long enough to go deep in the adapter and get past the torx part to remove the adapter. It is on there special tools rack and is about $7 and you get a torx to boot. If you want a spare gasket kit for the cooler it is P/N 1206-05 and is $8 to $10 bucks. If you buy from on line HD it is cheapest but I only found the gaskets at LSHD1. I agree you are better off with any cooler than without.
OP,
I have a NIB model FLH-2 fan assisted Ultra Cool, if you are interested. $295.00 shipped UPS in the CONUS. For further details, check out the Ultra Cool website. http://www.ultracoolfl.com. and PM me. It will fit your budget and help me pay some bills (lol).
Alternate tools: Also look at your chisels and punches, you might have one with a 7/16" hex body, another cheap solution is 7/16" internal threaded hex standoff from the hardware store/ Lowes/HomeDepot
