+1 - never a problem with closing the lid on a cable. For those talking about iPhone/iPad charging, the standard Apple cable will charge from a cigar lighter/USB adapter provided that the amperage is right: USB is always 5 volt (more or less), but with amps output varying from 0.5 to 1.2. IPad can just about charge from 0.75 amp, but take ages. Later the iPhone, the more amps they prefer. TomTom Rider GPS won't even recognise that there's a charge under about 0.8 amp.
Bottom line: check the packaging of any USP power supply to make sure it's man enough to charge your kit. Ask me how I know...

option to powerlet high prices
found this RV site on google. same flange mount that powerlet and others sell for $24+. scroll down to the "RV roof connector". could also use for battery tender plug in.
