Default Steel braided brake line

I'm getting ready to replace my handlebars and ordered some extended brake lines, 6 inches over, to work with 12.5" apes. I ordered the stainless steel braided line just to add some bling, but when I opened the package to take a close look at them, I see that they are wrapped in clear plastic with a heavy black dashed line running the length of the line. The clear plastic does not look like something that is part of the packaging, it looks like it's part of the line, so I don't want to remove it.

I'm putting pics below. Anyone see this before? What's with the black dashes?

I just installed these yesterday. The black dashes will end up on the inside once your done. Make sure you put the right ones on the right side. I used my mighty vac brake bleeder. Just pumped it up, cracked the bleeder and kept filling the resevoir. Started with the left side caliper. Piece of cake.

Default if you value your paint...

Don't remove the "plastic" sheath. It serves a dual purpose...it helps protects the cable and your paint. You will rarely see the line hit any painted surfaces, but without the sheath you'd be p*ssing nails mad at all the little scratches it will leave in your paint. Like the previous poster noted the black is hidden when installed correctly. As a shameless plug I just installed SC II lines purchased from Dr. VTwin (forum sponsor), best price I could find and they were very knowledgeable/helpful, with super fast shipping!

Hey, thanks for the replies everyone. I wish I would have known about the black dashes on these verses seeing how other manufacturers mark theirs. Surely there is a way to mark them for installation without being so obtrusive and obnoxious.

No problem with the shameless plug for Dr VTwin. I wish I would have bought from them since they are a good sponsor on this forum. I don't want to say who I did buy from because they are a pretty good vendor also, but the packaging was from Barnett. They look like first class quality, but why the heavy, ugly black dashes?

Thanks again guys.

Anyone know how magnum shielding marks their cables?

In the market for braided cables and sure don't want those black dashes

I have Goodridge brake line. It's has the dashes but they are smaller than what the OP posted. Doesn't bother me. Can't really see it when installed.
