Went to the hardware store near the office after I lost a stock nut into the cam chest.

Replaced all 4 nuts with 3/8 x 24 with 9/16" Grade 5 jam nuts for 5 bucks total. ( 22,000 miles ago...)

Yes those are much easier (and cheaper)to find than the Gr 8 1/2" flat, jam nuts. I have plenty of time to wait for this guy to get back to me so time is not an issue. If time does ever come into play I may need to go the same route. But I do not anticipate a problem. I just want them on hand when an adjustment is needed or for a cam swap or re-install.

Interesting information. I have the SE tapered adjustable pushrods and will be installing them in a couple weeks. The cardboard backing of the packaging says, "H-D HOG HARLEY" (c)2008 H-D-PKG024628." I don't believe that's the manufacture date. The UPC sticker has the date of 12/06/2011.

According to some of these posts, it sounds like the jam nuts were upgraded at some point. Any firm belief one way or the other if I have the upgraded jam nuts?

And good grief, spending more $$ to upgrade the upgrade, does it ever end? Nevermind, I know the answer to that.

Thanks for the input, as always.

I bought my SE Tapered in 2010 and have had no issues but I have no idea about the date they were made. So I have a set of the Gr8 nuts on hand for the OH SH*T moment if it ever happens during a pushrod adjustment. The guy is not doing the 1/2" flat nuts any more but as Stiggy posted there are other solutions to the issue if it ever arises. I wouldn't worry at all.

Does anybody know if the jam nuts on the "Easy Adjust" SE pushrods were also weak? The pushrods with the -99 suffix is what I'm talking about.
