Solo Tourpak riding

Solo Tourpak riding
I am looking at installing the 4 point detatchable system
on my tourpak so that I can use the pak as my backrest
(it is heated) for comfort also when riding solo. I know
that I would be needing to change the seat for this option,
was wondering if there is more info out there on what some
of ya have used. I would be willing to get the seat modded
and heated to compliment the heated backrest. Just looking
for a little insight.............

there are two different racks, one is for 2 up, the other is for solo. so if you wanted to switch between the 2, you would have to unbolt your tourpak and mount it on the other rack. doesn't take long to do, though, just more of a pita.
i don't ride 2 up, so mine is always set up for solo. i have the chopped tourpak with the chopped backrest.

If you do a lot of solo riding and need the added storage of the tour pak, this setup is the way to go. It is extremely comfortable to use the tour pak as a backrest. These are pictures of my '03 UC. I have been considering doing the same thing on my '09.
The only thing you have to get use to is how you throw your leg over.

i got that licked. being short, throwing the leg over was always a pita, so what i do is to come at it from the right hand side, right hand on the throttle (with handlebars turned full left), left hand on the tourpak backrest, right foot on the floorboard, then just step up, put left leg over the seat, and sit down..... the only thing to worry about is to make sure that the bike is not leaning on an uphill slope

A question for you solo tourpak guys. Can you tell any difference in how the bike handles with the tour pak forward?
I am considering this for my long touring when I go solo. If it doesn't help with handling I will just skip it. But if it does, well then I may have to do something about it!

I don't ride 2-up other than for short distances and have my King Tour Pak on a solo rack for long trips. My seat is a solo police air ride and it took some doing to get the TP moved far enough forward so that I could rest against it. I did this with some modifications to a Kury TP relocator detailed here:

Once I got the TP in the right location, I found that I did not enjoy bumping into the wrap around arm rests on the King backrest when leaning the bike. Just last week I replaced the King backrest with a Chopped TP pad:

I am dying to get this new setup on the road when weather allows.

Humm I would like to do this to my RK someday, but looking at the picks It appears to have little in the way of lower back support. The backrest is more like an upper backrest. If you were to look at my solo backrest, its right into my lumbar area. I doubt I could use that high a backrest without modifying it with support running down the entire region right to the tourpack. I suppose that can be done.

Legends has a sliding tour pack setup. It is pricey, but comes with new seats and back rest also.
