Trip of my life.
I am about to embark on a special trip of my life with my 72 year old Father. We are trailering from Edmonton to Vegas and riding from there to the west coast then across country to Florida have never made a trip like this before was wondering, what kind of safety gear locks and whatever else a person should probably think of bringing. He is riding his beamer I will be on my Ultra

wow!! sounds like fun. Enjoy this time with your father, as im sure your aware, time runs out quickly.
as far as safety gear, wear a helmet and appropriate riding gear, youll both be more comfortable and safer in the long run. as far as locks, just keep your insurance paid up and get some trip insurance if it bothers you, enjoy the trip and dont sweat the little stuff, thats what insurance is for.
i wouldnt purposely leave valuables exposed or make it easy on the thieving bastards, but if someone wants to steal your crap bad enough they will. just enjoy the trip.

Rain gear a must. Tire repair kit, tool kit. Pack light, you won't need a lot of clothing other than jackets, couple pair of pants, socks and the normal stuff. If you need clothing, you can buy along the way. You can send extra stuff to your destination via UPS if need be. Wheel locks I would carry as well. The lighter the better. Emergency contact information. A small digital camera a must. Hide a money order on the bike...you'll never be broke...it happens. Again, you won't need a ton of clothing. Long rides are simply a series of long day trips. It WILL RAIN. Two or three large plastic trash bags... amazingly useful at times.
Sounds like a ride of a lifetime for sure. Enjoy your dad, this time won't come again.

Camera
Not real sure on the security stuff and that is good thinking, but bring a camera and don't be afraid to ask people to take pics of you and your dad. Lots of us here don't have a dad anymore so enjoy yourselves for all of us!!! Good luck and please report back after you get home.

Very cool. An experience of a lifetime.
Probably means more to your father than you could imagine.
Don't sweat the small stuff. Bring the basic safety stuff and tools mentioned above. You can always wash clothes or buy new along the way.
Don't ride beyond your ability per day just because you need to get somewhere today.
Leave your plans open so you can stop when you need to.
Don't rush.
Take breaks, stop to see the view, smell the flowers.
Savor the experience.
Don't forget that Dad will probably need to stop before you do though he might not be willing to admit it.
Ride safe.
