ORIGINAL: hojones

Mine runs great. 5th gear has a differant sound to it but every bike I've owned has it's own sound somewhere. Doesn't bother me. I will say however that after they did the torque smoothing recall it's a totally different bike.
It did change it for the better right , thinking about having it done to mine this week!

Another Happy '07 touring owner. I read and read and re-read everything I could about the transmission problems before I bought my bike. In fact, I was looking for a good deal on a new or used '06 because I was so nervous. Like you though I noticed the same thing, a handful of guys were making all the negative posts on the subject. I decided to buy it, it does come with 2 years of warranty, and see what happens. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. If you want one, buy it, and don't look back.

celtlion,
You could start a poll asking 2007 owners, that have a transmission problem, what the build date of their bike was. Some people seem to think the problems are only on the early model 2007 bikes. If that were the case, the MOCO has a fix for the problem, but for some reason is keeping it a secret. That doesn't make sense.

I have the chatter CAUSED by EPA mandataed lean condition which will cause pre-ingnition (pinging) that trasfers through the comp sprocket. I still think this is the best bike I have ever owned. I keep the Rs above 2500 and no problem. I latter switched to a Big Sucker and D&D pipes installed a SERT and almost all pinging is gone even below 2500rpm.

ONE THING TO NOTE: I have yet to read of a total failure of a 6 speed Repeat no major trans failure just noise this should tell you something. Some were replaced due to oil seapage, but this is a casting issue not gear problem.

If you can handle the fact that 6th gear is only for +70mph....buy it.

If you feel a need to get to high gear ASAP assuming gas milage will improve, motor will run smoother and engine/drive train wear is reduce you'll be disappointed.

It really depends on YOUR drive preference, not ours.

Mine has stopped all the weird noised after 3785 miles, went to full synthetic, then back to HD Oil, (synthetic was noiser)
And after the re-map (re-call)
It now rides like a Harley-Davidson should.

Love my 07 Ultra. 5th gear sounds similar to my 92 FLHS.
