Default Chrome and engine heat

I am getting ready to add a piece or two of chrome to my 2012 stock RKC. I know chrome is very popular, but are there any concerns that I should be aware of in adding engine chrome? Thanks for any advice.

I doubt that anything would get hotter than the rocker boxes on the top of the engine do and they don't discolor. I have a bunch of chrome on and around my engine and not a bit of discoloration.

You just have to be a bit careful when wiping the chrome off. Make sure your cloth is perfectly free of little bits of dirt as it can scratch the chrome. A couple of years ago I rode through a construction zone that covered the front of the engine with mud. When I got to the hotel I hosed if off and wiped it down. The next time I waxed the bike I noticed a bunch of little scratches in the front rocker box.

The only problem I've had with adding chrome is a lighter wallet.

depends what you are adding- if chrome"covers" that keep cooling air from reaching a hot motor- reconsider

I had a 1996 Ultra with chrome engine covers and plates the aftermarket offered, with no oil cooler. No chrome discoloration but I will never do that again. I believe that those covers trap alot of heat and won't do that to my 2010 which runs hotter. It's just more stuff to polish and screw around with when you want to work on your bike. And it tends to look like a circus wagon.
