Default Adjustable Aux passenger footpeg mount kit - anyone used?

Just installing this kit (54157-10) and run into a spot of trouble.

Kit should fit with tapered mount footpegs and I bought 50131-95A to go with them:

The screw to attach the pegs to the tapered mounts of 54157-10 are either too long - or the tapered mount shafts don't have threads cut far enough into them for the peg scews.

Ironically H-D has this exact combination on their website: http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US.../customization

So I'd expect it to work.

Anyone else run into this problem? I could cut the screws or buy shorter ones but I don't see why I should have to - other than that I may simply have to to make this work.

Dave, I am trying to remember, but I am over 50, and they say that is the 2nd thing to go (I think hair is the first). But I have those mounts, and those foot pegs, and if I remember, the foot pegs came with 2 sets of screws, and I switched from the one it ships with to the other, and everything worked perfectly.

Over 50 myself - know what you mean.

So, interesting - I have the parts break-out for the footpegs and they only show one screw size (and they only came with one size). The mount kit comes with shaft extenders - but those don't apply in my case (for longer footpegs). Looks like I'm headed to Tacoma screw tomorrow - see if I can get some stainless screws with button heads.

Did you use the "small" footpeg kit or the "large" footpeg kit?

Darn - waste of time and money. Oh well.

Thanks!

Right - but the extra piece in the 54157-10 is an "extension" to make the shaft longer for pegs that are longer. I can't help wonder if the kit I have just has the threads not cut far enough into the shafts. I bought them from Lake Shore HD (Mail order) so no taking them back to the dealer for a look see.

Shorter screws seem like the best approach.

By the way - the instructions say the floor obard bracket must be in the middle position. Did either of you guys do this? I can if I have to but the old lady likes them higher up (top position).

Default Same Problem Easily Fixed

Had the exact same problem this morning. I thought about just cutting the bolts down, but it was easier to just pick up two 1-1/2" stainless cap screws at the local ACE hardware. Just dont forget to add some threadlock.
