wasn't sure if the heat would melt the tape or the adhesive and loose the piece

Heat wouldnt be the problem, I dont think, I believe the curvature of the derby cover would be an issue, you'd probably have reduced surface area for it to stick.

I do not know either. But I thought about them on the back of the Pass footboard.

Ok, now I get it! Yes, I have done it, as have many others I've known with no issues. As stated, the curvature is an issue. We used to run flat covers on the shovelheads and those were easy. I also ran a curved cover with an eagle on it, I removed the cover, secured it on the bench and formed the eagle to the cover before applying it. On the curved cover you need a medallion soft enough to form without breaking.

It's a damn good place for an NRA decal.

I have had the medallions on my passenger floorboards for just over 3 years now no problems.

I used JB weld on medallions on the primary cover as well as on the gas cap cover. These are the 105th anniversary medallion, the bottom are flat, but the top center is slightly raised, blend in real nice.

The stock SG primary cover and gas cap cover are just plain chrome round pieces. I like the way the medallions dress them up some.
