Default Stage one question

Another Rookie question - If I install screaming eagles & big suck intake on my e-glide- will it be alright to ride the bike for a week or so before I take it to my guy for the tune?
Thanks - tom

Probably won't hurt anything, but it will run like crap.

You'll be running way lean and probably run like crap not to mention blueing your new pipes.

especially if you have a catalytic convertor in your headers, you will be ok.

alway good to post year model, modifications when asking a question as things change from year to year.

with the cat in place, there is a major restriction to flow- if you were to remove the cat or change headers, then you may want a tuning solution.

some bikes do, some don't.

for tuners, there are the add on units like the power commander, a download from Harley or I use nightrider.com XIEDS--- which for $125 are the perfect solution for me.

you need to be able to recognize if your motor is not running well, a real sign is "pinging" which is pre-ignition- this is audible as a sound like pebbles rattling in a coffee can on swift acceleration or go up a steep hill.

In my case ( 09) my motor pinged when factory stock under certain repeatable conditions ( 2800~3200 rpm up 6% grades). XIEDS solved that and I was later able to add the hi flow intake and exhaust with no ill effects

Default Stage 1

Some say the ECM will adjust, but even if it does, you aren't running closed loop all the time. When you run open loop with a stage 1 A/C, you will be running way too lean.

You'll have to deciede for yourself, but I wouldn't do it.

Ok thanks guys - I'll hold off installing the pipes till my tuner is ready for the bike - I'm getting it Dyno tuned by one of the best - it's a 07 - CA

Thanks again - tom

If it's an 07' you'll be fine to put the pipes on and drive it as 07's have no cat in the head pipes - just don't put the free flowing a/c on until you take it to get it tuned.

As I understand it, the ECM will "learn" to compensate for the lean condition in open loop mode, but not in closed loop mode, where most riding occurs.
