Bike Accident This Morning

Glad you're OK, but this is a great question! Very rarely is it not your fault when you rear end someone. So OP, in hindsight, is there something you'd have done and/or will do differently in that situation?

That similar accident happened to me a year ago last August but didn't go over the windshield but I did go up on the tank and fall over. Damage was @$2500 as I didn't have the rear bag guards. The shop said due to the same distance around the bells that there was no damage to the forks. I found out later that they were bent slightly when I had my chrome fork lowers put on. Just because the distance around the bells look the same, I can say there "CAN" be a slight bend in the stanchion tubes! Noticed this after I tightened up through the triple tree and when the axle was placed through the wheel I had over a 3/8 gap too much between the forks. This told me the tubes were bent slightly because I didn't get the tubes in the same position as they were when taken down/off. Rolled the original tubes on a flat surface and you could see a slight bend on the upper ends. I ended up "out of pocket" ordering new stanchion tubes and all was fine.

I know that in the future I am going to give plenty of following distance leading up to those park & ride on-ramps from now on.
Also, I have learned that my rear brakes are a whole lot easier to lock up when it is in the 40's outside than in the 70's when I did my emergency stop practice.
