Default Removing inner fairing for paint....how hard?

Okay guys, been thinking about it hard and would love to paint my inner fairing on my Street glide while its torn apart for speakers/amp, hidden antenna ect ect....
Is this something you think i could tackle without a hitch? Been wrenching on my own rides for 14 years and was a technician at a Chevrolet dealership for a while. I've seen the thread that takes you step by step but for those of you that have done it....i need opinions. Also, while its apart would like to do the Progressive monotubes too if i trust myself enough....whadaya think? I worked on my FXSTB quite a bit but this bagger is a little different. Thanks a bunch for any advice.

I just removed my inner fairing a few weeks ago using that thread you mentioned and it was pretty easy. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person either. Just take pics like stated and label all your wiring and it'll be a sinch.

If you were a technician then the inner fairing job will be a breeze for you. It's not difficult at all. Just did mine this winter.

Service Manual is worth its weight in gold. Buy one, u will get your money out of it the 1st time you use it. You will have no problems with the inner fairing removal, just take your time and pay attention as you go.As suggested either follow the thread as quoted or buy a Service Manual.

Service Manual Helped, the link here helped:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...ep-w-pics.html

It is easy, my only issue was installing the keylock (I don't have the tool). A buddy said I just didn't have the patience.

Go for it.

The inner fairing is really not as hard as it may look. I know all those wires look intimidating, but it's really quite easy. I had mine all torn apart in about 2 hours. I removed the radio, it just made it easier for me. I think the most challenging part is trying to convince myself to drill the holes for the mirrors in the new painted fairing. The install is just doing it all in reverse. I used the link mentioned here and the service manual for proper torque setting when I went back together. The mod is really one you always appreciate because you see it EVERY TIME you ride.

Actually if you look down the hole with a flashlight to help line the tumblers up you can do it with a screwdriver...no tool needed. I have the tool and just helped a friend tear his inner off and just for shitz and giggles tried the screwdriver and it worked great. Really no need to buy the tool.
