Ok, you got that big box, so what is in it that you always have? Tools I keep in side bags along with rain gear. Vest and hat are in the big box. So what's in yours? This might get real interesting.

Weekends, only my HOG touring map book and an old towel for drying the windshield and mirrors. Workdays in winter I have a jean jacket, lunchbox, sunglasses, and lighter gloves because I am wearing all the heavy leather in the morning. Afternoon the heavy leather comes off if it's above 50 and goes in the trunk. Summers there's nothing in the box except lunch because it's friggin hot here, even at 0630 hours...

So basically stuff I use all the time because it's so easy to open/close and get to. I keep the same stuff you do in the saddle bags: tools, rain gear, etc.

Pretty much the same here. If not on a trip going someplace the trunk has items I think I might need. As said above, the commute weather is about 30* difference in temps from one end to the other. I work swing shift, so going in to work at 3PM it's warm and nice. In the wee hours of the morning when I'm coming home it's 25-30* colder than when I went to work earlier that day. So cold weather vs warmer weather gear is needed.

If I need to grocery shop it's empty cuz on the way home it's full of goodies!

The right saddle bag has my tools, spare gloves and assorted little items - so it's about half full all the time. The left bag is kept empty for shopping.

If I'm just doing a day ride for pleasure on a nice day the Tourpak is OFF the bike (detachable mount), cuz most of all I prefer the bike without a trunk at all. But it's so incredibly handy that it's on alot of the time I will admit.
