Default Mid frame heat deflectors

I installed a pair of mid frame heat deflectors on my 2012 street glide tonight. The same ones that are standard on the ultras. My lord I didn't realize 4 lousy bolts could be such a pain in the rear. Granted I am no wrench but it took me like two freaking hours, the top two clips were damn impossible to get seated. The instructions advised no locktite because it would harm the plastic and it advised to tighten to only 35 inch pounds which is like half a turn after contact. I don't see how with the vibration it will stay snug but I guess that's the way that are installed from the factory on the ultras. Personally I think all the touring bikes should come standard with these.

Anybody out there who installed them I'd appreciate some feedback if they stay snug overtime not to mention there is hardly any clearance from the rear head on the right side. I did run the bike and it does not hit the top of the rocker with the engine vibration but it is close....something so simple but such a pain to install.......any thoughts on this would be great...thanks

I got them, I like them, I paint them, lol yes exhaust side is a super pain in ***. and those clips tend to tear up the fingers trying to push them in I didn't torque them. I just tightend them to the point they won't go anywhere. and I drilled holes though them for my air ride.

One thing you can use on nuts and bolts that will work like thread lock is wax. I learned this old trick while shooting archery as the points were always loosening up from the inserts in the arrows. Works great as a thread lock while also working as an anti-seize.

I'm really wanting to get a set of those for my King.

I want to get a set also but unfortunately I have the adjustment mechanism for my beloved rider backrest on the left side. It would look dumb and probably be hard to mate together so I've put off on getting them.

Like I said it should be standard on all touring bikes, a friend has them and he swears he would never ride a bike without them and that's from a person who is so squeaky with his wallet that after 4 years no mods I mean no mods....after he told me that I just bought them right there and then....

Mine were easy to put on, but my exhaust isn't in the way like most Touring pipes.

I was also pretty leary of them staying snug, but so far they've been great.

2 things: I installed them 16k ago and they have stayed tight and I also have the adjust lever for my backrest and it fits nicely behind the deflector on the left side.
