I bought my 01 UC with an S&S gear drive cams. Previous owner had the receipt from the work being done at the H-D shop, but neither he nor the mechanic could remember the specific cam that was used. (He did it on recommendation to get rid of the tensioner and had it tuned for that cam)

Is there some way, short of pulling the cam, to find out which cam was put in it? Is it marked on the outer surface? I want to go with a BB kit, but I need to know my cam grind first.

I agree. However, I'm wondering if there's a marking easily visible from the cam opening.

 

same idea for me. It's the recommended cam for your setup in S&S catalog...
