Default Road King wind beat me up!

Here's a quick story about my wind battle and where I am now. I hope it helps someone out there! So my newly aquired 02 RKC was knocking me around at speed AND I was looking right through the top of my shield. I'm talking about my 1/2 bucket rattling around like it was on top of a steam pipe. Really annoying! We've gone here before, I know. My solution that works great for me is as follows(5'9" with a Sundowner seat BTW): I bought the shorter (16" I think) Clearview shield with recurve. I look right over it and the wind goes right over my helmet. Great purchase. I also added the fork deflector from Kuryakyn and what I think are Harley(used) fork deflectors. Well, took it out yesterday and got up to highway speed (80). The buffeting was all but gone. What a relief! Still have some light breeze in my face but just enough. I hope this helps somebody with the same issue! Ride safe!

The fork air deflectors, are kind of funky looking, but they sure do the job.
I took them off last summer, after one ride put them right back on.

I had those fork deflectors on an old bike of mine and was amazed at how much difference they make.

Waited til I got my seat redone before messing with my windshield. Marked it and took 3" off. Buffeting is gone Might should have taken another 1/2" of as I'm not quite looking over the top. Course if I sit up straight no problem.

I'll get some pics up of the fork deflectors as requested. They are kinda funky lookin, I agree. They hit my crash bars too. Maybe I can flip them... not sure. Kuryakyn makes them too but the ones I saw look like they're from the Klingon collection or something. Not real attractive in my opinion. I cut my original windshiled too as it was a mess. Cut real easy. Took my time with a template and a jig saw. Might even try it on a good windshield but i had to order a new one anyway. The recurve is even better than the straight at the same height. With the factory shield I would start out barley looking over it. After a few hours I was looking right through the top. Fighting it all day!

Man this thread is just what the doctor ordered....getting tired of the wind...had the stock cop surf board for a windshield on my 07 RK and it sucked out loud...replaced it a Long Ride Shield 19" recurve and viola what a difference...still a bit of wind coming up from down below...a buddy I ride with has the Kuryakin deflectors and like you I think they look ..well..not my style...I just finished looking at the HD deflectors and I think I will pull the trigger , sounds like thay work....thanks for the info...

My neck has been fused so any wind buffeting of the helmet is out. I installed a long ride stock height shield with a laminar lip and the wind deflector between the forks. No more head shaking. Side benefit is no rain in the face and no bugs on the face shield.
