Default My 05 flhri, will it every be the same?

As most of you have read, My 05 road king has been in the shop with l an electrical issue for several weeks now, The dealer told me if its not figured out this week they would work with me on a new bike, ( not sure what that means exactly) As of yesterday they were still completely stumped, as was H.D. They have replace the e.c.m, the tssm, the complete securtiy system, checked bulbs, contacts, all the wiring, switches etc. still no answer. The latest is that since they replaced the e.c.m with no fix, then put the old one back in and tried a new tssm, no fix, now harley wants them to try another matched e.c.m. and t.s.s.m. out of a different bike. Here is my question, even if they do get this thing figured out, will it ever be right? I know the wiring nightmares may sometimes be "fixed" but there are these vehichles that still never are completely right. It seems every ouce of electronics and wiring on this thing has been either replaced or taken off and inspected. Are they ever gonna be able to put this thing back to Factory "NEW". Just wondering if at this point I shouldnt just flat out push the new bike issue. I really would rather not start out with a new one, Mine only has 2100 miles on it, and I really dont want to start over with the break in procedure, 1000 mile service, stage one, etc. However I really not sure I want this one back either, When I see it in the shop it looks like some bad experiment or something, and the excited feeling ya get with a "new" bike is gone. I explained this to the G.M. of the dealership and she agreed, but she said she needs to speak with the owner of the dealership on monday since he has been out of town since the middle of last week. The management at this dealership have been great as well as the parts and sales guys, Its the service department and lack of communication in the service department that have me upset. They have nearly met the criteriea for the Minnesota state lemon law already, however I hope I dont need to go through that headache. Im just looking for some opinions on this one, Has anyone on here ever had a dealer buy the bike back? What would you guys do?

I'm glad to hear that the dealer is working so well with you in trying to fix your bike. My advice to you is that you need to talk to the owner and also the general manager at the same time and try to get them to either have the engineers from HD headquarters fix your bike or have them make good on their suggestion of getting a new bike. Don't let them take anything off for depreciation and have them absorb all the costs in making this deal right. You spent $20,000 hard earned dollars and the frustration has no price.

I would not worry about the break-in period and the Stage I kit. Have the dealer make good on that too and install it for you when you pick-up your new bike. You sound like an avid rider and your first 1000 miles will come and go pretty quick and after that, you are good to go. I know it's painful, but you can have that 1000 miles gone in a couple of weeks and then it will be over and done.

If the dealer can fix your bike, then it might be ok, but keep in mind that with technology as complicated as it is today, your always going to have the possibility of things breaking down. H.O.G. gives you the assurance that if you do break down, they will come and get you and help you out.

Let us know how things go and what the final outcome is.

Ride on...when you can!

My own feelings on this would to go for the new bike. This is the only thing I would accept, however I'm **** about some things. Once they have had it apart, it will never be the same as the pride of workmanship at the dealers is far below what you see at the factory. There are always issues of torqing parts, that you know isn't done with as much care as at the factory if at all. these are just my opinions only. You are the one that has to feel good about the bike and be happy with it.
And don't let them do you out of the stage 1, let them do it on the new bike. You shouldn't have to take a loss because they can't fix something, that's the MOCO's and the dealers loss!

"05 road king has been in the shop with l an electrical issue for several weeks now"

Come on now that tells the story (several weeks) the only option now is NEW BIKE. No way would I take the bike back for any reason. They admit they can not fix the bike, when they say they did will you have any confidence in the repair? Face it all they are doing is replacing parts until they THINK it is repaired. Maybe this will fix it maybe that will fix it. Maybe is not an answer, knowing what is wrong and repairing it is.

I'd make them set you up on a new one with all the bells and whistles that you had on your old one, at zero cost to you. Any deal that requires you to spend any money over .10 cents per mile for the mileage on your old RK is not right.

Lets see renting a Touring model is $150.00 per day times several weeks. $1050.00 per week, several weeks 7 X $1050.00 = $7350.00 which do they want to do? Is your bike any different than there rental bikes?

They discount your bike even $0.10 charge them rental.

And by the way, tell them to give you a LOANER while they mess around with yours, why should you miss riding season at all.

I am going to leave work a little early tomorrow and see what I can do, Ive been stewing on this all weekend and its eating me up. Last friday they gave me a new Roak king classic to drive for the weekend, Its nice but I want my hard bags back. When I left on friday with the loaner the G.M. of the dealer ship told me that if my bike wasnt figured out by the begining of this week we would talk about a new one, but I think enough is enough, Im gonna press the issue. Im just wondering what they will do about all my accesories on my other bike, Theres about 2,000 in chrome and pipes, Big Sucker air cleaner, etc. I did most of it myself on the old one, but Ive got a feeling if they are buying the bike back they are not gonna want me to do the labor of putting it back to stock for the sake of warranty. Not sure how that will work out. I just hope they dont stick me with the bike. I may need a little "support" to let them know they are not doing whats right. Maybe a few hundred phone calls from fellow riders from this websight would help!!! Hopefully they agree and set me up a new one, I will let you know how it works out.
