RE: My 05 flhri, will it every be the same?
Well heres today's chapter in the story of the Road King from hell, They tried yet another new ecm and tssm along with a few other goodies, and it still does it. I flat out told the dealership today That I want a new bike and wont accept this one back, I just received a message tonight that the G.M. will sit down with the owner tomorrow and "crunch numbers" What does that mean? Ive got a feeling im gonna take a bath on this deal some how, I work 6 days a week 2 jobs to support my family, when im not working my bike is my baby, What can I do here? I tried calling the dealer back, but of course everyone went home for the night. This really sucks. I called Harley customer service and they flat out told me "we dont buy back motorcycles". Ive boughten 3 bikes since july of 03 all harleys, an 03 springer which I traded in on the Road king, and a 883 sporty custom for the wife. this is the thanks for loyalty I get. If the dealer will not help me I may need some help on this one, Maybe a few phone calls from fellow riders would change the way they think. Ive seen it before, when one guy stands up to the big dog the little guy gets stomped, but when the phone rings off the hook to let them know what they are doing suck they change their tune. They've got me in a corner here, they have for weeks. Anyone got my back? I have yet to say the name of the dealer, but if they dont help me I will be stating the name and number.

I will be interested to hear what the G.M. / Owner has to say after crunching numbers. I mean, is this not a warranty issue that they HAVE to fix? If they can't fix it, then should this not mean a new bike is in order? And for no charge? If they try to tell you that you will have to pay some because of miles on the bike, make sure they know that you have been without the bike for weeks and not to mention the burden it has been on paying on a new bike that you cannot ride because of this problem. Keep us up to date please when you hear something.

Ditto.........I will be interested to hear what the G.M. / Owner has to say after crunching numbers.
If not good, we need to notify the other people on the forum in all the sections/models (Softail, VRSC, Dyna, Sportster, Custom, Classic) every part. Then tell all the other Harley forums on the Internet. Numbers can rule even a ride in protest of the dealership.......surprise.

Well here goes, today was a strange day, I went to the dealer and met with the owner, We began talking and he asked me what I had in mind, I told him I wanted a new bike and he said we could work something out, He asked what I thought was fair, and before I could even speak the service manager came in and told me they had figured out what was wrong with my bike, It was the speedometer, at this point I want sure weater to be mad or happy but none the less we went to the shop to check it out, Sure enough, seems to be fixed. The owner asked me what I wanted to do and told me that if I was still not comfortable he would still take care of me on a new bike, but he asked if I would take the bike and just give it a shot, if the problem pops up or any other issues he would put me in a new bike no questions asked. I wasnt sure what to do but I agreed. The parts guy knew that I was interested in a new set of higher bars for the bike and brought this up to the owner, as a bonus he through on the new bars for me!!! As I was leaving he said that if anything at all makes me uncomfortable about the bike to let him know and he would take care of me, new bike no questions asked. This made me feel pretty good, as its a small town dealership and everyone in the place knows me by name. I went out and put about 50 miles on the bike tonight with no problems, Ive forgotten just how much I like this bike, especially with the new bars. Its nice to have my A** back in my own seat, and the bark of my V&H pipes doesnt hurt either!!! Its nice to know he was so willing to work with me, and will be there for me if need be. I will keep you posted.

Yep, he wouldn't have had a choice if they hadn't found the problem. Its normally something silly like this but I do understand how it can be very frustrating. The Lemon Law sucks, so if you ever have to use it be prepared for the LONG runaround. I would try what you were thinking before attempting the Lemon Law ever again.
Sounds like the shop got in a lucky guess which resulted in a fix, BUT you might consider shopping for a new place to have your bike work done. Swapping parts isn't troubleshooting and simply demonstrates the shops inability to deal with mechanical issues. This time it was under warranty but what if you'd have been paying? I think you see my point.
Regardless I'm glad your fixed and back riding, be safe.......... T
ps... make sure you have copies of ALL the work that was done for your own records. Make sure that EVERYTHING they worked on/replaced/swapped/etc is loaded in the computer under your bikes VIN & get a copy for your own records. I'm not saying this is gonna come back to bite you, but if any work they performed causes a problem later on you want to be able to say they caused it so they eat the maintenance costs. It is vital that EVERYTHING is listed separately in the computer, not just a general description.
Ride safe......
