Default Winter and Full Face Helmets

I'm sorry for the multiple post's. Planning for a few road trips this winter and have a lot of questions from the seasoned riders on line.

I prefer a shorty helmet and when I ride I carry a face sheild that I can attach if the rain starts. Planning a 10 day trip and wondering if I should buy a full face "just in case". My brother insists on a full face and I feel like my shield will work when weather hits. Thoughts.

Full Face are nice, but a shorty with a shield and a balacava ( I like the polor fleese ones) will work too.....depends on how much cold weather you can stand. I find the older I get the more I like being warm...so I use a flip face full face helmet.

No doubt about it, I like being warm but hate being Hot. I guess I'm trying to avoid spending money on a helmet I won't use very oftern and having to find a way to add it to the rest of the crap I'm taking. We are doing a combination of tent camping, staying with friends, and hotels.

i bought a Schuberth C3 this winter - pricey but top of the line - very quiet for a modular helmet & it has a built in sun screen!

If cheap is the main criteria, buy a Bell. Wearing it is a good way of saving storage space

This Bell Revolver flip-up with a sunvisor is just $100...

Captain Itch sells an excellent fleece-lined leather bandana that blocks the wind well and will do a lot to protect you in the cold when wearing a half or open face helmet.

I wear a 3/4 Shoei most of the year and this leather bandana has saved me a few times at nite when temps really dropped.

But when it's really cold you can't beat a full face helmet

Helmets are to protect your Head...

Shorty looks cool going down the road

Full face is what you want when you leave your bike going down the road.

its your choice - both can be made to work in cold weather.

I wear either a full face or 3/4 all the time, winter or summer - thats my choice.

full size Gator works great to keep neck and face warm

Dont get much cold here, we call anything below 20C (68F) cold

But I cruise at 120 to 140 kms (speed cameras are set to 140) so a full face helmet is good in winter. Oh, that's 75 - 87 miles per hour for you US guys.

Summers the temp goes over 45C (115F) so then I wear open face and earplugs.

Glad I dont read the "full face ain't cool" argument, cool is doing what you want to do yourself.

If you decide on a full face, get a modular. You can flip it up if you need to say something with the bike running and be heard. I find modulars easier to take on and off too.
