I agree with casper. If your not used to a fullface while out om a roadtrip is not the time to get used to one. You need to be used to have limited perifial vision. Go with the shorty and a shield, a baclava is very handy as well. My two cents.

I've tried em in the winter but the full face fog up pretty easily if you are in slow traffic and that is frustrating.

Full face will keep your head and face from exposure but your chin and neck will be exposed to wind and weather. Any thing water will run down inside your jacket. And that will suck. Ride safe.

I have a few helmets, but I prefer a full face on long trips. It's safer, quieter, and shelters you face from the elements better than other helmets.

I put a pinlock shield on mine, fogging issues are non-existent. They work like champions.

I like the FF for winter but struggle with the periphal vision not being 100%. Modular makes a big difference when you can flip it up for a "breather".

Full Face and a turdle neck. Works on a snowmobile ! Warm makes for a happy camper.

full face is nice cause it will keep you completly protected from any of the elements, helmets like everything else you get what you pay for, a cheaper helmet will have less ventalation and be heavier from what i delt w when i rode sport bikes. any time im goin far from home i use my shoei, locally i stick w my 3/4 helmet

If you're considering a full face for just cold weather riding, consider a snowmobile helmet. They don't fog up so easily. I don't think any kind of helmet is a one size fits all kind of thing; full faces are hot in summer, anything else (and even many full face helmets) are cold in winter. I have half, 3/4, and full face, and wear them all at different times. If the helmet that really fits is $100 more than you wanted to pay, it's worth it in the long run; I really regret the full face I bought, wasted $120, should have bought the $250 one.

I bought a full face helmet last year for the same reason, it has more wind noise with it on going down the road than my half helmet does. I tried it again recently, even more disgusted with it. I bought a Carhardt Balaclava; man that thing is nice under the half helmet, I keep it in one of the bags for any time I may need it. It's not very thick, but is very warm, less than $20 I think.
Maybe different helmets might be different, try your luck if you wish.
