I tend to change slipons like I change socks, which the wife constantly gives me crap about but whatever...started with Rineharts don't know if they had competition baffles or whatever, but they were way too freaking loud. Tried a couple of pairs of modified stockers and they were too blatty. Got a pair of CVOs and although the bike ran great, they were really heavy and no louder than stock. Picked up a pair of old non-epa friendly SE's (three holes visible from rear outlet) from a forum member and they were awesome - exactly the sound I was looking for, but...they were the welded baffles and the right baffle welds broke loose. Picked up a pair of Jackpot dyno-tuned from another forum member and although they do not sound anything like I was expecting, I like the sound and the bike runs great. They are quieter than the old SE's, but they open up nicely when you nail it and at a cruise, they are nice and mellow. I'll stick with these for a while

 

I'm still looking for mufflers for my vance & hines duals. They sound so different with the 255 cams. I would like to try some monster rounds, but $500 is just to much for me. Maybe I'll try some wild pigs with 1 3/4 baffles. At $195 shipped if I don't like them I should be able to sell them and not be out to much.

 

Just put the FuelMoto 4.5" Pro Touring on my 103" which already has a 2-1-2 head pipe. Pretty impressed with the sound and increased torque they have but they are a bit loud for a touring bike. Pretty nice at idle and ~2500 rpm but really increase the volume at open throttle and above 3000 rpm. Had some V&H 4" twin slash on before and did not like the sound and lost torque. Almost like they were too little restriction.

The Pro Touring are dyno tuned with more restriction in the left than the right creating almost a 2-1 system so FM may need to alter the baffles if used on a dual exhaust setup.

 

V & H Basic slash cut slip-ons for the price and sound you can't beat them

 

I think what sounds the best would have more to do with the ears of the beholder. It's kind of like music.
