A good 3/4 helmet will protect your hearing - and your brain (if things go south).

Meant to say I do wear them on my SG now, didn't for a little while but after this thread I went back to wearing them.

I used to use them when i rode a Street Glide, Now that i have the Ultra Ltd i put a half helmet headset on, plug into the intercom, and chit chat with my GF or listen to a Johnny Cash CD without blasting the fairing speakers.
Love it !

I do for long rides to cut down on fatigue but for short hops I do not. Custom formed plugs are the most comfortable as opposed to twist and squeeze.

I tried but I wear a Fullface helmet and earplugs make the sound worse. I understand that is a problem with FF helmets.

I enjoy my stereo on my Ultra to much to wear ear plugs and do not really need them. I know many that do but do not have the protection I have.

I have worn these for surfing for maybe ten years. And now for riding also. Great fit with no protrusion and they don't go deep in to the ear canal, comfy. They have a pin hole for pressure release which allows me to hear traffic and my tunes! I have tried about all the different plugs and these are my favorite by far. I highly recommend them. Reasonable price also. I get the clear ones, but I believe they make red ones also. http://www.proplugs.com/
