Default Street Glide ShutsOfff When I Pull the Clutch in.

I have a 2009 Street Glide, the bike fires up easily, but when I pull the clutch in to shift gears it quickly shuts off. I can repeat this multiple times.

When I pull the clutch in the kick stand is up (per my eye), but in reviewing some other threads I've read that this could be a kickstand sensor issue. So....I fired my bike up, lifted my kickstand up (there was a little play), so I physically pulled the kickstand in tighter and then pulled my clutch and the bike stays running.

The only thing I've recently done is replace the battery.

1.) Thoughts on what the issue could be?
2.) If it is the kickstand sensor; is this easily replace? Where is it located?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks

There is no "kickstand sensor" on a 2009 Street Glide.

Depends on where you are if you have a jiffy stand sensor (Japan does). However, if you are in America and have a domestic bike, there is no jiffy stand sensor. There is however a switch in the clutch perch (clutch interlock). I'm guessing that is where your problem is.

From your description everything points to the Side Stand Sensor.
It is located at the pivot of the stand and is easy to replace, takes just couple of minutes.
You obviously have an International Harley, not US?

Don't be in a hurry to replace the sensor. The problem is, that the ECM is not getting the signal that the stand is up. Which can be due to several reasons:
- Faulty sensor (least likely)
- play developed in the jiffy stand; lose spring can't keep the stand up (the stand need to be all the way up, the sensor is magnetic (hall-effect) and is monitoring the proximity of the juffy leg.
- dirt/ grime causes the stand to not retrieve up all the way
- broken/chafed wire to the sensor
- water/ corrosion in the sensor connector

So, please check for the other stuff listed before you go and buy a new sensor. I don't know how much it costs at the dealer but I guess could run to $60- $80.

By the way, you should be seing "STAND" displayed in the ODO when the bike shuts down due to the stand being down ("seen" down by the ECM).
Good luck!

I don't think so, the clutch switch alone can't shut the bike down.
The Side Stand Interlock (on European bikes) works like this:
- With the stand down you can start the bike only if in Neutral (clutch doesn't matter)
- If engine is running and you shift into gear with the stand down engine shuts down right away. In this case the ECM does not care for the Clutch Switch but for the Neutral gear and Side Stand.
- If vehicle is moving at speed and the side stand is accidentally extended then engine will continue to run; trouble code will be set and a red light will turn on and "STAND" will be displayed in the ODO
- With the stand UP you can start the bike in Neutral or with the Clutch in.

Well if it will stay running each time you pull the jiffy up i guess somehow you got the kick sensor.

What's the first number or letter of your Vin? And if you think it is the jiffy stand then get down there and see what you can find. I am curious to know my self.

My brothers 09 Police Road king had a jiffy stand sensor. He was always leaving the bike ignition on since the bike would die when he put the jiffy stand down. The bike was bought new, not a retired police bike. I bet the jiffy stand sensor is at fault.
