Seriously...that is a big chunk! I would think it had to come from somewhere inside the cam chest tho....Good Luck!
I almost think it might of been added by a tech before I owned the bike. My bike spent the first 25k of it's life working for the Fort Worth Police dept. and since i've owned it no one else has worked on it. I could just amagine a tech saying F the police and adding some shavings to the motor.
There really is no place in the cam chest-plate area where a piece this size could have come from unless im ignorant. Just wish there was someone who could say i know exactly where that piece came from or i came from outter space ?
Could it be a piece that came loose on the top end & fell down through a push rod tube?
There is no way this piece would fit through the push push rods. Do you guys know who the best tech guy is on here or a good TC 88 machinist i could talk to?
I suspect it's been in there since new, when I done the SE cam plate up grade I found a small stone laying next to the oil pump in the timing chest.
I almost believe your right but i want as many opinions as possible. I'm going back together with new cams and oil pump and wonuld hate to blow it up right away. Thanks man.
take off the oil filter and cut it open. You will see much more if something is coming apart in there.I dont think you would find such a large piece without there being a lot of other smaller pieces.
The only other bronze piece in the motor I can think of is the valve guide, but I have no idea how a piece of valve guide could get into the cam chest.
I wouldn't be putting that motor back together if it was mine. The whole thing would be coming apart.
Wonder if someone was using a brass drift to put new cam bearings in and a piece came off? Just thinking out loud.
