Thanks all, I already had the idea that it was B.S. But....with the quality of the new "C" lifters highly questionable, thought I'd ask it. Funny to get all of your responses. Ride safe.

Did you ask him how they adjust the stock ( solid ) push rods when the springs and lifters "wear down with time". I'm not a engine builder but that would had been my next question.

Absolutely false. If they're telling you that, find another shop to do the job.

Do you know how much abuse you would have to give that engine to collapse the lifter springs? You would blow the case apart long before that would happen, or you would be constantly in a "valve float state" on the rev limiter, either way you would blow the engine before the lifters collapse. 3Oyrs experience ASE Certified Master Automobile Tech and I've never seen that happen in a car, truck or motorcycle, IMHO your HD service writer is full of B.S. and trying to get money for his tech and dealership!....just my .02

That's total BS, ask him if the cam change will also affect the piston return springs.

I can't imagine what they would charge to adjust the jubalatin' beam. And my gosh, how often would that have to be re-adjusted?. I would run. Next thing they would want to sell you some stop-leak for the radiator!

if they also replace the blinker oil and change the winter air out of your tires, then I would say it is necessary as all three of these things affect the others...but only as far as handling...your fuel milage and hp will remain the same...also while they are in there I would have them reverse the flitzer valve, because as we all know they don't wear evenly if you don't.....Oh, and by the way your dealer is f.o.s....

I take a big lead pipe wrench in to the dealer and the first time that service writer opened his mouth, I'd konk him over the head with that pipe wrench. Either way he deserves it. If he knows anything about how pushrods work he's lying to you and needs a konk on the head. If he doesn't he's just an idiot and a konk on the head won't hurt him.

Good luck...and stay away from that dealer.

There is a HD dealer in Indianapolis like this as well. I think half of their staff doesn't know what they are talking about and the other half are idiots or liars.
