@beary:
::if you are going to use rim weights at all, why even go to beads?::
- in cases where I am not quite happy with a statically weighted wheel (assuming 'just beads didn't work either), I might try it as 'adjunctive therapy' (hey, if it helps),
- and in the case of gel-tech there's some added failure insurance.
Interestingly, I don't recall reading about anyone doing this (and I sifted thru a lot of reports), and I didn't see manufacturers speaking to it. (Need data.)
::either add a lot more beads or::
Just keep in mind the manufacturer recommended limits.
Also, I would add a little more at a time, not just 'a lot more'. Some papers I read on hydrodynamic balancing indicate there is typically a sweet spot, and that gradually adding weight above that will begin to throw off the balance again... until adding more begins bringing it back again.
Personally I would add only a quarter oz. at a time (after adding the recommended amount), and work the problem from there.
As most already know, one caution is to be mindful about adding unsprung weight.
So while I would try this on a tour bike, I wouldn't for on a sport ride (for obvious reasons). {Not that you can't, just a personal choice.}

Well - I did some real world testing on the Centramatic devices - just a rider - no interest in the company - just like to try new things.
My long term review is at www.bogiesreviews.webs.com
Someone mentioned what these were like at speed... at 105 mph, country road in WI; nowhere near a perfect road surface - very smooth, handled great...
