Deer strike
#31
Had a BIG damn antelope try to ram me in Wyoming last year. That thing was on a dead run at the right side of the bike, Cranked the throttle and missed him by about 10 feet: he stood in the middle of the road pawing at the ground ! Still don't know what I did to **** him off !!

Glad you and the bike are okay. Hitting a deer is something you hope never happens but when it does it will hopefully make you a more cautious and better rider. I hit a deer last June and feel very lucky to walk away from it. It was lightly raining, I was running about sixty mph. when I saw the deer starting to walkout of the woods. I have practiced emergency braking on dry pavement and hoped I would never have to do it on wet pavement. I started to brake as much as I could and the deer just kept coming. I was probably down to forty five mph. when I hit the deer. It was a full size deer and it knocked me and the bike over. The deer went down in the road and me and the bike went sliding down the road. When I got up I was surprised that nothing felt wrong, thanks to protective clothing and the bike had very little damage. The front left crash bar took the majority of the hit and the deers head hit my auxiliary light and bent the bracket. The crash bar was bent back about an inch and the crash bars on the right side just had a flat spot worn on them from the slide. I was surprised that nothing else was damaged and I could finish my trip. Like you said, it plays on your head for a while and makes you see things differently. Gotta love the comments from the pros on what to do, they evidently have read more than they have experienced. Ride smart and GOOD LUCK.

Bout a month ago I was riding on a big four-lane highway just south of here when I saw all the traffic ahead hitting the brakes. I slowed way down and saw that they were stopping for a huge buck that was walking in the ditch at the edge of the pavement. I stopped about eight feet behind a pick up and as I did, the deer just strolled between me and the pick up like it was his Sunday afternoon walkabout. I revved the bike and he just kept slogging along like all the traffic, honking horns, and my loud Harley were no big deal. He walked all the way across the highway at the same pace and disappeared into the woods on the other side.
