Default Road King Classic shield

What is the height of the shield supposed to be? I took the bike out this sunday because it was 52 degrees in NY .

I did a 30 mile run then went back an thru the shield on to see if I could warm up, The shield is exactly the height of my eye line, meaning I cant see clearly above it an have to look down to see thru it.

Im not sure how many inches the shield is but its standard, Should I look at getting a lrs shield? maybe 17 inches?

Your line of sight should be just over the top of the windshield. I went from a 21" to a 19" to get rid of the line of sight issue.

From the bottom of the shield (cut out part for headlight) to the top is 20" on a stock Road King, as measured between the red x's in the attached pic:

(here's the link to the replacement stock shield

I just got a Long Ride Shield 19", which is measured from the top of the headlight to the top of the shield, so it should be a couple inches shorter, I have the same problem as you do, hopefully the LRS will help

It should be at the tip of your nose.

Here is how I had it explained to me. Place a mark on the ground 50ft in front of the bike. Now sit on the bike in riding position. You should be able to see that mark just over the top edge of the shield. If you are looking at that mark through your shield mark your shield at that point and thats where I would cut it. This has always worked well for me. When I setup a new bike I always make sure I choose my saddle first so that when I determine the height of the shield I'm good to go. Because different saddled might have you sitting higher or lower.
If it ends up you need to cut your shield and you dont feel comfortable doing that I would recommend just getting a new shield from clearshield and just buy one of their seconds. I bought one there with a recurve top for half the regular price for a shield they said had a deep scratch that in reality no one can see unless i tell them to look for it.

Your OEM a 21". I had the exact same problem. I solved it by installing an 19" from Long Ride Shields. Works just as well as the 21" with much better visibility.

My stock sheild was 20". blue taped the upper portion and then traced a template and placed it against the blue tape and marked it 17" following the template with a marker(same curve) Then with a jig saw cut it down. smoothed off the edges and all is great now. pick your own # 16, 17, 18, 18 1/2....

I've got a Memphis Shades lightly tinted 15" that I can't use. I'm too tall (6'4") and went with an LRS shield with the flip on top. I'll make you a deal on it if you're interested. PM me.

Memphis Shades sells replacement plastic for Harley in several different heights that works with the stock hardware and strapping. I replaced the stock plastic with a 17" replacement and now look clear over the windshield.
