Default Cam Cover Gasket Leak

On a recent trip, I noticed that my right boot and saddlebag were covered in oil after rolling down the Autobahn in Germany. At first, I thought it was coming from the oil pressure sending unit, but it wasn't. I cleaned it up, took it for another high speed run, then discovered that the leak seems to be coming from the Cam Cover Gasket. It's leaking from the leading edge beside the sending unit, then trailing off all over the side of the bike in the wind, but only under high pressure. Normal driving around town doesn't cause any leaking. I changed the gasket...following the service manual to the letter, but the first high speed run and the leak is back. It's a 2008 Ultra with a Stage 2 upgrade and 24,000 kms on the clock. I've retightened the bolts, etc, but I can't get it to stop leaking. Anyone have any other ideas before I take it to the stealer? And no...staying off highways at highspeeds is not an option.

Thanks.

My best guess is that it is not the cam cover gasket. It's probably the oil filter mount or in that area.

I'm with dawg. Also check the clamps on your oil cooler lines.

There is a bolt/nut that the oil filter screws on to that will work loose when changing oil. It needs to be checked when you change the filter or it will develop a leak. It is the one that holds the oil cooler bracket on. Don't ask me how I know this please. lol

It could also be coming from the aircleaner (crank case blowback)

you can use a spray on powder ( i use foot powder from the drugstore) to find a leak.

spray the suspect area and ride, the powder will reveal the source of the leak/seep

as mentioned above, it could be from the air cleaner, blow-by fumes from the crankcase condensing ( an easy fix for this is to run the level 1/2 liter low)-
or it could be from reversion which is a characteristic of exhaust pipe length, width/restriction, cam profile and rpms-
it which case it can be tuned out by changing the length or restriction of the exhaust

oil pressure should be limited at 35 PSI ( or so) at high rpm, so that may rule out ultra high oil pressure pushing oil past the seals

It seems unlikely to me that air cleaner blowby would end up on his boot at Autobahn speed.
