Default Stupid question about oil filter mount

When I bought my bike used the previous owner gave me a chrome oil filter mount that he had never installed. If I choose to put it on, the front pipe has to come off. Since I will have the pipe off soon for my cam job, I thought maybe I would do it then. Stupid part: Can I remove the filter and mount without draining the oil, or will it all come pouring out of there?

It's an 04 Road King. I'm talking about the L shaped bracket that houses the stud that the oil filter actually threads onto. The other side of the bracket or mount if you will attaches to the crankcase. The filter is horizontal. I don't have a picture of it but I'm sure someone knows what I'm talking about.

Some oil will be lost, but not all...why not change the oil? if you are doing a cam change, you will lose some oil and it's not a bad idea to put fresh oil in with a new cam...JMO

There are some non-Harley aftermarket mounts out there that do not seal properly. Years ago, I put a chrome oil filter mount on my 2000 RK and it leaked. The reason for the leak was poor machining on the contact and sealing surfaces on the block side of the mount. The O-ring depression was cut way too deep so the O-ring would never seal, regardless of torque on the mounting bolts. It came from Ebay. I learned my lesson that day about crap from Ebay that is not genuine HD. It's a real aggravation having to take all that off again and put the stock bracket back on.

Neither oil pan or sump will drain into filter. The actual pan is on bottom of transmission. The sump only has a small amount missed by return pump. (about 16 oz)
