30T drive pulley
#22
One tooth on the tranny pulley is roughly equivalent to two teeth on the rear wheel pulley. If your only going one tooth on the front (to a 31T) then it'd probably be cheaper and easier to do a 68 tooth rear belt pully.
Here is an excellent thread on the subject of final drive ratios:

When listening to people's opinions, take note of what year their bike is.
The pre 2009's had an even lower final drive ratio, so a 30T on a 2008 is the same final drive ratio as a 31T on a 2009+ (2.97 final with a 31T).
A 30T on a 2009+ brings you to 3.06.
Here is a link to the best summary of info on this, from Andrews website-

Also, there is a long, very informative thread over on the CVO Harley forum (entitled 30T and happy). It made me decide on the 31T over the 30T for my 2009 SERG, as I didn't want the revs too high on the highway. I seem to be in the minority on this though, as many of the guys went for the 30T- depends on how much high speed highway driving you do I guess.
Another reason I went for the 31T over the 30T is that I thought I could keep my stock belt, but that wasn't so in my case- I bought the Andrews 31T, and my mechanic said the stock belt wouldn't work, so I would need the 139T belt. I've yet to order it, so I had to hold off and can't give you my opinion on this until springtime.
Speaking of belts, apparently some guys had issues with their aftermarket belts breaking, but they appeared to be the Drag Specialities or Falcon ones.
Best bet is to stick with the Gates Polydrive PC 139-1 from beltdrives.com. Gates makes the OEM belts for HD. And no, HD does not have a compatible 1" 139 tooth belt- you have to go aftermarket.
And also, if you decide to go with the more expensive Baker pulley, make sure you don't get the aluminum one- with my previous metric bike, a lot of guys did a simlar pulley swap and had issues with wear on the softer aluminum pulleys- not worth saving a bit of weight, IMO.

I have to replace my Falcon 139 tooth 1" belt because it's eaten two pulleys. I want to go with a Gates 139 tooth 1" belt. Does anybody know where I can order one online? Belt Drives Limited doesnt sell direct I don't think.

I really dont understand this problem with overall gear ratios.
If you're on a two lane or an interstate, run whatever speed you like and use the best gear available.
I have a 2000 Ultra and when it was new the tach was at 3500 RPM's at 80 MPH. TO me, the motor was screaming at me to shift to a higher gear.
I had a Baker 6 spd installed and that solved the problem for a while.
THe Baker developed a noise wo I had (under warranty) a Baker DD6 installed and now I'm running just a tad over 3,000 RPM's at 80 MPH which is very nice.
I also have am '03 RK (T/C 88 with a 5 spd) and I now remember why I had the 6spd installed.
Running two lanes up to 60-65 MPH it's great but at higher speeds I'm looking for a higher gear.

I have a 2009 FLHTPI and put the gates belt and the HD trike 30 tooth sprocket in, I really like it, pulls faster in low gears and enables cruising at a little higher RPM in 6th, about 675 RPM higher at 100km (60MPH). Along with the 2:1 pipe SE AC and TTS tune, my bike is happy. I would do this again in a heartbeat. Oh, it changes your speedo, but my TTS recalibrates this. Cheers.

Heres a link for the belt http://www.beltdrives.com/reardrbelt2.html
You will need a belt if you do 30 or 31 on a 09 and up touring model.
the 30 tooth will raise your rpm approx 300 rpm in 6th gear.
You will also need a tts tuner or some other device if you want your speedo to be spot on.
your 6th gear light and cruise will still operate. I have done this to a few bikes and its a major upgrade for the owners.
