RE: boots...best out there
I like Hermans Survivors, the tall thinsulate ones. Tall, comfy, waterproof and warm and my last pair lasted like 15 years. Actually still going but my wife isn't real happy about the way they look after 15 years. I believe Hermans went out of business, they are now called Smith's. Red Wings similar.

I'll vote for H-D harness boots. My first pair is on its third pair of soles and after ten years feels like a glove. Warm in winter, not hot in summer. They come up on Ebay occasionally, and my second pair I bought there new for $35, but that deal will never come along again!

I'd been using Ariat Heritage Ropers for the last 3 years and they are good, but I just picked up a set of dedicated riding boots. Chippewa 27862 aka 12" black Odessa Rally boots, they are absolutely killer. I've had dedicated riding boots before , but these take the cake.
Vibram sole (Oil resistant and replaceable) Velcro entry is a snap and the whole boot can be reconditioned by them. The leather is waterproofed (oil/wax) and there is a shift pad on both sides , plus it's fully lined. They are Comfy and have great grip and protection. I picked them up on a super sale , the best price I've seen on the web is $145
plus MADE IN THE USA
