If you like sitting on ....get a SG
If you like sitting in.......get a EG.

Ride both. Personally I feel trapped in a EG.

Buy the Classic and go detatchable. Best bang for the buck.

I agree with BLKBAGGER. Get the extras and then take them off when you don't want it.

I wanted to get some opinions on the right model.

I like to have a stripped down bike for local rides - exactly like the street glide, and I love that it is lowered a bit. Most of my riding will be day long local.

But for long touring, would like to add a tour pack. I feel the lower fairing pieces are less important, as is CB and rear speakers.

But wanted to get opinions - have a few ways to go:

1. Buy street glide and later add tour pack (detachable)

2. Buy Electra Glide classic to get tour pack- but change it to removable brackets, and get lowered suspension (they make brackets apparently).

3. Go all the way and buy ultra classic to get all the goodies - and modify as per #2. But It is quite a bit more money - generally haven't wanted the CB, lowers etc.

Let me know your experiences on value of the various goodies that come with each model?

Would appreciate input to help me make a good choice. Thanks.
Both bikes good for long distance touring, I have owned both. If you ride solo, the SG, if you ride 2 up the EG. Once you have a tourpack, you cant go back.

They both have thier positives and negatives.

I bought the SG for what it has and more importantly what it doesn't have, like the BIG turn signals, bumpers, fender trim, cb, bag guards, pin striping and...........

I did pick up a used tourpac that needed some work and paint and added detachable mounts for both solo and 2-up riding. I also added lower fairings because I like the look of them.

In the end you have to buy what makes you happy, and remember anything can be modified.

SG or EGC same price. Get EGC and purchase detachable hardware for tour pak. You can add rear speakers if lower fairings and CB are not important. EGC better value in my book. However, if you have to have the stripped looks of SG then buy SG and build up, but will cost more.

My two cents.

SG is the same price as the EG. The items removed from the EG to make a SG add up to quite a bit. Makes no sense to pay the same for less, in my book.

That's the advice I got from most; ended up w/EG Classic. Cruise is nice and although the detach hardware isn't cheeep, it's a wash because most people enjoy the utility of the tour pak once they try it, so you'll end up putting that on anyway (probably). I've even taken off the bag guards, changed out the rear turn sigs to SG style and went w/Fat Boy front fender to further clean up the Classic look. I'm a tall guy so haven't gone the lowered suspension route.

Enjoy whichever ride you go with.

I'm in the EG camp. Can't understand why the 2 are the same price - just seems logical to get more for your money.

Whichever way you go, congrat's on the new ride!

I had a SG and to make it "comfy" (etc.), it lost all of its "SG charm" -- On the flip side, I took a lot of those same parts and made my EGC "Geezer Glide" and made it more "sleek and cool" -- So my money's on the EGC.

IMO/E, YMMV, yada, yada, etc., etc.
