Default Zumo 665 GXM Antenna Placement Road King Classic

Hello all!

I just got a new toy (Zumo 665) for my Road King Classic. I'm stuggling to find the best place to mount the GXM 40 sallelite antenna. Any recommendations, mounts, location options and/or pics would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure how visibile the antenna has to be or if can be hidden in the leather saddlebags or behind the side panels. Can it be mounted next to the GPS? Does it have to be facing up?

I'm getting ready to install, which requires thatI take the tank off. I only want to do that once, so thus the conundrum ... should I mount it somewhere near the front (in front of the tank) or run it back under the tank and seat to be mounted somewhere in the back.

Thanks in advance!!!

I put double stick velcro on the top of the front brake resiviour (sp) then wrapped the remaining wire around the handle bar to the triple tree. You really dont notice it after a while. Plus you can remove it to use in another vehicle.

A number of companies make antenna mounts that will work with various GPS mounts, such as the one in the link below.

In my experience, the antenna has to be horizontal to the ground (level) in order to maximize reception. If it's at an angle, the signal strength is less.

If you do mount it to the top of your brake reservoir, you might want to use a product from 3M instead of any type of Velcro. The product is called Dual Lock and is a lot more secure than any Velcro I've seen. I know my Ace Hardware store sells it and probably a lot of other places. Just wipe the surfaces with IPA to remove any dirt or wax, allow it to dry, and then apply a strip to each part. I've used it before just like this and it really worked well.

I have a windshield bag works great! BTW it is an awesome piece of equipment! Coming back from Sturgis saw a storm front coming up behind me-hit about 20 minutes after i checked into my hotel! That and I listened to Howard Stern the whole way!

Glue that puppy to your helmet! That will look cool!
Other than that, I don't know! Hope it works well for you.
Hatch.
