removable tour pack
Hello everyone, Popeye here, currently deployed to OEF, will be acquiring a 12 Ultra Classic when I get back home. I always wanted a Street Glide but I do a lot of riding with my wife and her confort is a mayor factor on what bike I'm getting. So, my question is.... do they sell a quick disconnect bracket kit to have the tour pack being able to be removed on days that I ride solo. If anyone yas any ideas or suggestions please let me know, thank you.

Yes, HD makes it. 53246-09a is the kit plus you'd need 70032-09 for wiring ( list $550 & $80- better prices from the online discount dealers expect 20% off)
Here's my 09 Electraglide classic with the tourpak off
streetglide seat, streetglide pegs, lower windscreen.
It goes back to near stock trim for long distance touring
the detachable kit is best used for frequent changes, if planning on having it off most of the time, then putting it back on to tour- it really only takes 30 minutes to remove it with wrenches
you see how the supplied license plate mount looks like a spoiler- Below I've swapped to a 2010 roadking signal bar w/ integral plate mount and leds ( and the HD Brawler solo seat I sometimes use- also lowered in the rear with streetglide rear shocks ( minus 1")
street glide seats are often available inexpensively from "upgrading" riders, the classifieds here are pretty good, the streetglide seat is firm and has a nice bumper to keep you from sliding around-

if photos aren't showing go here, it's the red bike, seen with tourpak on/off and :

popeye,
had the quick detatch on my last bike. on and off in a matter of minutes. Put the tp on whenever i was going 2 up - off when solo. like having 2 bikes - superb comfort for the mrs when 2 up and awesome looks and easier/better handling when solo. if i could only have one bike and would need occasional 2 ups for anything longer than a short ride - i'd opt for and electraglide classic, ultra/limited (or road glide with tour pack) AND quick detatch - best of both worlds!

Nextortion,
Thanks for the tips buddy, yes in my case I will have the best of both worlds, the super confort of an Ultra Classic, and with the quick detachable tourpack, the bike will have the good looks and handling of a Street Glide. Super hyped about this project. First things first, I need to get my rear back in one piece back home so I can work on the bike. Ride safe brothers. And wish you all a happy new 2012.

Popeye,
#1, get home safe and sound and many thanks for what you're doing.
Not sure why you would not consider the SG. I went thru this same decision making process last month, opted for the SG with a QD TP and lot of other extras.
Anyway, you may be committed to the EG and that's fine, others have passed along the details and the removeable tour pack is well worth it IMO. You may want to lower it a bit, more of a SG feel, but that would be another thread.
