Default Primary oil in winter

Hi all...I'm still riding my bikes even at 20 degrees outside. It's time to change the oil and I plan to drop down to 10W40. I have been wondering about primary oil...should it also be dropped down to a lighter weight? and for that matter, how about the Tranny...I'm currently running the peptobismole (for lack of better words) in it now.

Thanks in advance.

Larry

I ride through the cold temps as well. Use 10/40 in the winter. Think it is important to make sure the bike gets to normal temperatures in the winter, keeps that milky **** out of the engine.

You could switch over to the Shockproof Lightweight green stuff.

Thanks guys for your quick responses. Im still somewhat undecided about the whole topic of what oil to run in the winter...while I realize that I am supposed to drop down to 10W40, I also realize that there is generally room for error there not to mention, I also keep my bikes in my garage that I believe is generally a few degrees warmer than the outside temps and when I get to work I have a heated garage to bring the bike in to. So I'm thinking that while im riding in 20-30 degree temps, the actual temperature of the bike is greater than 20-30 when I actually start the motor. The other side of this spectum is that this is kansas and all bets are off pertaining to our weather... I can leave home at 20 degrees and come home the same day at 50 degrees. I'm afraid i would be more concerned about running 10W40 above 40 degrees than I am at running 20W50 below 40 degrees. Not sure if it matters or not, but i also only run full synthitic oils. Any insight here would be greatly appreciated.
