Default Your cold riding record

The guys at work keep score. The record for riding in is 28 degrees. Here in Charleston SC it doesn't get all that cold. So when it hits the 20's the bets start.
Tomorrow I hope to break "our" record in the morning with 27 degrees at 7AM. (weather channel sez it will feel like 16...yeah!)

Before you say, "ahh LP I've ridden -40 degrees yadda yadda" There are rules.

Must abide or record attempt is null and void.

1. One jacket, one shirt, one pair of pants, one set of gloves and sunglasses permitted.
2. You must wear the helmet you wore all year. No changing to a full face last minute.
3. No snow goggles..No chaps.
4. When you get off the bike you can't complain, at all. You have to act like it was nothing. (this is hard)

Let me tell you. If your witnessing this, it's the funniest thing you've ever seen. One guy had to be lifted off the bike a few years ago.
If you're the guy on the bike, it's super painful. Tomorrow that will be me.

Yeah it's crazy, but you guys ever do any stuff like that at your work?

Just wondering, what is the rule for mileage? I'm sure you don't all live together. LOL!

Well we don't have a rule for that yet. We all live within 20 miles of the base give or take a few.

I was on a sight the other night that had a bunch of info on the HA's. I was curious about their style in saddles since I was contracted to custom-tool a solo for a member (I am a leathersmith)....anyway, to make a short story long, under the FAQ's section someone was curious what are the requirements to be an HA or any club member of that caliber, for that matter and among the factors was a stat that made me have even more respect for those folks....the average mamber - regarless of climate or temperature - will ride an average of 20,000-24,000 miles per year. Now let's see, that's more than most of us drive in a car and furthermore, there are a lot of climates that are less than desirable in the winter months.
So anyhow, I would be interested to see what some the coldest temperatures those dudes have ridden in. 27 degrees may be a heat wave for them!
Ride on maniacs.......

Last February I had to leave the house at 5:00 am to get to a PGR mission and it was 19 degrees and at 75mph that is colder than a well diggers ***. Once the sun came up it wasn't too bad, but man that first hour to get to the meeting place was rough!!

Must abide or record attempt is null and void.

1. One jacket, one shirt, one pair of pants, one set of gloves and sunglasses permitted. Do that. I also wear a face mask.
2. You must wear the helmet you wore all year. No changing to a full face last minute. Do that
3. No snow goggles..No chaps. Okay, I have to wear the chaps.
4. When you get off the bike you can't complain, at all. You have to act like it was nothing. (this is hard)Do that
Of course, I'm only person who rides back to work during winter here. Actually, unless it's 75+ and dry as the Sahara, I'm only person who rides to work period.

Lowest temp ever was 28 a few years back and it was 40 mile trip home.

Presently 32 @ 9 p.m. in Atlanta, GA with wind chill @ 19. Temperature is dropping and wind is blowing about 24 MPH. Expect it's going to be pretty nasty when I head home in 3 hours.

I rode home from work on 3rd shift last December, it was 17 degrees at 6am.

I wore gloves, jacket, normal 1/2 helmet, and glasses....................no chaps, no longjohns, no heated stuff.

When I got home, I could barely walk up the stairs into the house............my knees were frozen solid.

My riding partner wore the same as me............only no helmet or glasses........he was frozen too.

Holy Crap! No chaps...????....

I don't think I like those rules. He11, I went out this morning @ ~ 39 degrees and I only made about 5 miles before I wussed out and pulled over to put my chaps on! I was fine then for about 150 miles. Guess that's what I get for living in TX and this being basically the first "cool spell" and not being acclimated.

I have ridden in the snow too (on the BlueRidge Pkwy in November), so I do understand riding in the cold.

I'm usually up for a challenge, but this does not sound like one I'd fare too well in! hahahahha!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be CAREFUL!
