Years ago we had a car and a motorcycle. The wife needed the car on Tuesdays to go bowling so I road my bike to work. All winter long. It was a dirt bike so not heavy. Got up one morning in early January and it was -14 degrees. Put on my long jons, two pair of jeans, insulated long sleeve under shirt, t shirt, two more long sleeve shirts a parka, helmet scarf and heavy winter gloves And into work I went. I can say my bike was the only one in the parking lot.

Now lets talk about riding in fresh snow.[sm=yikesomg.gif]

Riding in the cold is about as much fun as getting beat with a bag of hammers! [:'(]

My coldest was 33. Chaps, sweatshirt, leather coat, leather bandana, half helmet, two pairs of gloves. it was 5am and i rode 25 miles to work. this was before i had my glide....i was riding a 1200 sportster no windshield. now that i have my glide my rule is 30 and above and its not bad for 20miles or so.

Coldest ride so far this year has been 21. Long johns, fleece lined jeans, chaps. Turtleneck, fleece shirt, leather jacket...balaclava, 1/2 helmet, heated gloves. About at 15 mile ride to work on the highway. Wasn't too bad. We have been in a cold snap for the last week (temps in low teens at 6 am), but bike has been in shop, so haven't been tempted to joined the frosted ballz club.

While living in Detroit in the early to mid 1970s, I would ride year round. I had a car, but most of the time it wasn't running. I don't know what the temps were, but snow and ice were solid, kick starting took forever. A newspaper under the leather helped cut the cold and only had a half helmet with no face shield. No chaps, just jeans and leather boots from active duty in the Corps.

On one ride from Indianapolis back up to Detroit in the winter, I lost my right glove somehow and didn't have a throttle lock. That was painful.

Coldest ride for me was 26* and I broke all the rules. Had heated jacket liner, heated gloves,
long underwear, neck gaitor and a full face helmet. I'm all about making my ride as enjoyable
as possible.

Ha Ha,That reminded me of one that I bragged about for years.Back when I was a teenager on a 38 EL and seeing a little BabyDoll 15 miles or so from home.I somehow lost track of time and in the wee hours of the morning, with frost all over the bike, and real slow kicker, that beast started and off I went, 18 degrees.Levi's,T-shirt and old style leather with broken zipper, just snaps,Oh no helmet.I had to stop a couple of times to warm my ears and hands, but made it home. Was it worth it.Yee Haa,I was back there again the very next night.
