Default Putting on apes next week! Please advise

I have read all info I could find and I'm going to tackle this next week! I'm adding 14 inch chubbys and bought wire extensions etc. from HD bike parts.

What advise, tips, tricks or things you would do if you did it over again.

Thanks in advance.

solder all connections in the bars but stagger splices so not to end up with a clump of wires.

Chubby's are pretty easy to pull the wires through. Run two pull wires through each side if you have TBW and heated grips. Don't brake front brake light switch putting it back together. Have twice as much time available as you think it will take. Start drinking heavily.

Take pictures of the harness plugs (both sides) to document the color code and then draw a picture of each plug and list the color code for each hole. Double insurance.

A (small) paper clip works well to release the pins from the harness plugs.

Get a one piece clamp for the bars instead of the stock clamps. Apes will move on bumps if not tightened down good. I actually put a small shim in mine to so they stay put. One last thing, it will take you about 3 times longer than you think so be patient. Good luck.

Suck a string through the bars with a shop vac. Then tie the string to a heavier line (weed whacker string worked for me) and pull through.

Shrink wrap each solder joint, then shrink wrap the entire joint area.

When in doubt, cut it long, rather than short.

Wrap the bars in painters tape so they don't get scratched.

Sucks to do all that work and ding the chrome.

This site may help. It sure helped me install WO575s on my 2005 Ultra.

Thanks for the info so far.

Its a 2009 Road king. Do I need a one piece clamp? I haven't bought that.
