Touring on a Roadking
#21
Hey, the deflectors helped my "11 RKC a geat deal, and the front fork baffle helped with the wind that comes over the top of the tank and blows up your face. 80 mph now feels smoother than 65 used to. The cold weather is where the diff really shows up. May take mine off this summer, but for long rides, real handy. Go for it man!

After years of long trips and getting beat up by the weather, one of my riding buddies and I finally broke down and got a Woodys fairing. He has a RK and I have a fatboy. I can say there is a big difference in protection, as does he. Makes those days when you are in rain all day a little more bearable. It and good gear has extended my riding season with added protection. He ended up getting his painted and I opted for the cheap way out, got a fairing bra off craigslist for real cheap. Figure it is only on for long hauls and cold months so no need to drop the coin for paint, and it flows better with my leather bags. If you have a vivid black bike you could get away without paint, but would need to be treated some how. Glenn is a great guy to deal with as well. It is a bit pricey but having the option to have multiple bikes in one is great. Have to agree with others that the RK has to be the most versatile bike HD makes. And if you end up getting a fairing stay away from those ebay ones, buddy at work got one and it was a lot of work to get it to fit correctly and does not take the standard 3-hole hd or aftermarket shields. He was SOL when it cracked on a trip this year.

I traded my 11 Limited for an 11 RKC. Hated the batwing. On a windy day, and we have lots of those, that batwing was like a sail. Love the RKC and will never own another fairing bike. I feel I get plenty of protection with just the windshield. Plus I actually feel like I'm more in touch with the feeling of riding as opposed to just being on a bike.
I stepped up from a Heritage, the windshield on the Heritage worked great, but it caused the the bars to jerk when a truck blast hit me on a hwy.
Not on the Shark, truck blast just wobbles my head a bit, but the bike doesn't move at all.

Thanks again for all of the replies. Funny, I started out with a Heritage, went to a Limited, grew tired of the fairing, tour-pack, etc. & went to the Roadking. I love the ability to swap from windshield to no windshield but have yet to take a ride longer than 400 miles in a day. We're gonna try to log about 600+ miles a day so we are there Sunday late afternoon & that's what has me thinking about a fairing. If I don't go that route I figured I would just buy the Hog-Tunes handlebar kit for tunes for the ride....Again, thanks for all of the reply's.

I think the Road Glide is the best bike for me right now, and it's handling will make it a mainstay for the bagger side of me.
But when my kids are grown and gone (aint far away), look out, all bets are off on my stable...

I hear ya, "if" I could do what I want, I would have a sporty, a Heritage, and the bagger. Unfortunately, I don't have the fundage for such a stable right now.

Klaybus.........I just got back yesterday from a 9k trip through the
southern states from Ca. and back.
I have a 16 in. recurve shield, Laminar lip, fork and T stem defectors.
No buffiting and enough "wind" to know you are riding a motorcycle. A few days in the 30's.............(heated gear)...........a few more in the 40's and about 20 days in the 70/80's. Great trip!!
I will not change a thing on the bike for my next "tour".
Your Strugis trip will be in super warm weather..........NOT to worry!
