ocezam, reh13, I will definitely take another look at the Sta-Bo III kit. With the 1 1/8" rear pulley did you leave the front pulley or change it as well?

Also, from what I have seen on eBay prices for a decent swingarm and the other parts have definitely gone up! Thus my wanting to get my shopping list dialed in as I can see this will not be cheap so I want to do all I can to avoid purchasing parts that I wont be able to use.

Thanks again for the great help and support!

Front pulley remained the same.

I also have done this upgrade to my 1990 bike, using a 2007 swingarm and rear wheel/brake. I did it to get the stiffer swingarm, to improve ride quality. I used a True-Track Trackula kit, which adds a rear stabilizer, that tightened up handling a treat.

I reported on my experience in my thread Suspension Thump. Early Evos have a shorter swingarm than later ones, which created problems you won't have, also I had scope creep with using a wider than stock tyre.

If you make the swap to the 1 1/8" belt now you can run the wider tire too. 04 was the first year for it. I have heard the trike companies sell off the old parts when they do the conversions. Might make it a little easier on you. As long as they don't want big bucks for the stuff. They might only have stuff for the newer bikes now though.

grbrown - I have read your build thread which has been very helpful - thank you!

BLKBAGGER - I will investigate the Trike Conversion companies as you recommend!

Thanks!

It's a pleasure! It wasn't as simple as all the reading I did suggested, but I got through it. Early Evos have a shorter swingarm and belt than later bikes like yours, so that should not cause you any grief. My swingarm came off a trike conversion, via Ebay. Despite living in the UK all my major conversion parts came from Ebay in the USA.

grbrown,

I noticed you used a 2007 rear wheel as part of your Swingarm upgrade? Other than the pulley's having a different tooth count and using a 1 1/4" belt are the wheels the same as a 2002 - 2006 ? I checked part numbers and the 2006 and 2007 wheels have different part numbers, however, the descriptions are the same, 16x3", 9 Spoke, 1" axle? It appears the brake rotors are the same as well?

My reason for asking is that I have purchased a swingarm, wheel axle, belt guard. Now on to the rear wheel. I am looking at 2, both low mileage and I think I can get the 2007 for less than the 2006.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

The tooth count on my bike was originally UK spec, which is different to US spec. I now have a 70T, which I understand has been US spec for many years. My swingarm, axle and brake are all 07, but I bought the wheel separately and have a feeling that is 04/05, but it fits. It came with 1" bearings plus the later narrow pulley, not the earlier wide one and that is what I now use.

I am confident either the 06 or 07 wheels will fit. They are the same in 08, but come with 25mm bearings, although they can be swapped out. I also bought a low mileage wheel and the original bearings are still in it.

Hope that helps!

grbrown,

Thank you again for the very helpful information!

Another question if you don't mind?

So, if I go with the 1 1/4" wheel pulley will I have to change the transmission belt pulley or is the original pulley ok to stay with? How does that affect the belt alignment if at all? In other words does the 1 1/4" rear pulley / belt keep the same alignment as the 1 1/2" rear pulley / belt?

Hope the question makes sense?

Regards!

Thanks again!

You don't have to worry about the front pulley. The outer flanges will still be aligned, and the belt will track straight, being guided by the rear pulley. Unless you want to change the front pulley for a "gearing" change or some other reason, leave it alone.
