Default 2002 FLHT Front Fork

OK so newby question here. Recently got a new to me 2002 FLHT. Love it but, did not realize one of the front forks is bent when I bought it. Nice shady seller huh. So my question is do I take it to the locale shop to fix for hundreds or do I do it myself. I am good with tools just not experienced with bikes. When i have it done I am either doing or having done 14" Santee apes. I am not worried about doing bars. If I have the shop do it they quoted me $1100. Just trying to save money.

Get a service manual, it isn't that hard. If it's just the tube thats bent, that and a new set of seals and maybe bushings and oil is all you need. Take both apart and make sure they are both straight.

The biggest problem is if one or both of the tripple trees are bent. You will know if the holes don't line up when you re assemble the fork tubes into the trees.

You can find new and used on ebay. You need to know how long the ones you need are. You might want to replace both if there is any question about the other one's condition.

As far as sizes goes there should be a number of years that will fit on your bike. I just changed my forks to Chrome, not a hard job. Like iron butt said , check out your triple trees.

Not a hard job. I changed the forks on my 02 with Chrome lowers and progressive mono tube internals.

I also did the bars on mine ( 16"s ). Not that hard of a job just make sure you have a service manual. Save the labor cost, it's nice to work on your own stuff.

I think that price quoted you for the work is WAY too high. I am having to use a shop to do my winter upgrades this year: 14" bars, chrome sliders, swapping out gauges, remove and reinstall painted inner fairing, change trees to tri-glide trees, and installing stretched gas tank - Labor bid: $850, not including paint work.

Personally, if you are going to have it done, shop around a bit more.

Drag sells some pretty nice ones. Looks like there might be a set of trees available right here.

I would change them out for 2006 streetglide fork assemblies. That way you get rid of the cartridge set up that the 02' forks have and get a better fork assembly. It makes oil changes easier and the valving in the 06' legs is much better. You can buy them from Harley and they come with oil already in them so all you have to do is slip each one up into your triple trees. They cost about $250. each.
