Default Street Performance Mufflers for Road King??

I am intending to complete the purchase of a 2011 Road King Classic this weekend. As it is now, it is bone stock. The mufflers sounded a little anemic to me. As you can see from my signature pic, I have S.E. Street Performance Mufflers on my Sporty and I really like them. I think they are a good balance between a deeper throatier Harley sound and reasonable decibel level (and staying street legal in all 50 states so I can't get hassled when I travel).

I am thinking about doing the same on the Road King but would like your opinions. I also see that there are two different S.E. Street Performance Mufflers, the ones described as "Street Performance Touring" (Part 80732-09) and the ones described as "Street Performance Slip-Ons" (Part 80721-09). Other than the fact that the "Touring" ones require separate end caps, what is the difference? Is anyone running either of these?

You should check out the Fatshotz mufflers. I'm running those and they have a great sound. Nice deep throaty sound without being too loud. You may not like the look of them however, but they are worth checking out.

Until you get rid if the cat in the head pipe most mufflers are not going to sound very good.

I am VERY happy with the SE Street Performance Slip-ons on my 2011 Ultra. I actually had a set of them on my 09 RoadKing and was happy with them so purchased another set when I bought my 11 Ultra. I like the option to change out endcaps if I want to go with a different look instead of having to buy all new pipes. The 09 as I'm sure you can guess were a bit louder as the 09 did not have a cat in the head pipe BUT I do think they sound very good on the 11 with the cat in place. Much better sound than stock.

Good luck with your choice.

Ride safe.
